Planning for DrupalCamp MTL

As October quickly approaches, it’s time to think about DrupalCamp Montreal once again. The chatter on Drupal Groups had been gaining momentum until Andrew Lindsay and Jacques Blier took the initiative to set up a planning session this past Monday, Aug. 23. Eleven people showed up, and the discussion got quickly under way.
While this will be my first DrupalCamp, I hear that Montreal has a history of successful Drupal conferences. The first camp attracted about 60 people, and last year over 150 enthusiasts registered. This year we’re expecting around 250 people and we want the conference to reflect this growth in the community.
An organizational wiki has been set up with community members already dividing the tasks amongst ourselves. While we’re short on time, we’re certainly not short on enthusiasm! There will be a recurring planning session every Monday and work is underway on the website. Some past sponsors, including Evolving Web, have already pledged their support.
Of the few issues that arose, the most pertinent concerned translations and conference dates. Being in Montreal, it is important for the camp to reflect the city’s bilingual culture. That means better real-time translation and more French presentations. Consensus is also yet to be achieved on conference dates, but the contending weekends have been narrowed down to either Oct. 16-17 or Oct. 23-24.
Its interesting to see how things are slowly starting to fall into place. As the pace is sure to pick up, I’m excited for how this year’s DrupalCamp MTL will turn out.
