211 San Diego

211 San Diego is a public service organization that provides phone support and information to San Diego residents. It collaborates with a wide variety of programs and services in the San Diego area including homeless shelters and health clinics.

Evolving Web built a new Drupal-based website for 211 San Diego which provides easy access to information about all its service organizations. The site also includes some innovative features such as "Click to Call" and "Send to SMS", which make it easier for users to get in touch with each service organization.

The content on the site is primarily available through an Solr-powered search engine which allows users to filter content based on a wide variety of specifications including location and language of service. The search interface is enhanced by Evolving Web's Apache Solr search module. This increases the usability of the site by updating search results when users change the search filters, without reloading the page.

The site is fully synchronized with 211 San Diego's internal database of content and updates to content can be suggested by San Diego staff through the website interface. Staff also have the ability to save a set of search results which they can customize and suggest to users. Staff answering 211 phone calls also use the website to find relevant answers for the calls they receive.

On this project, Evolving Web collaborated with Reveal Communications, which provided wireframes, mockups, and conceptual specifications for the site.
